[private entry] Difficult conversations. Jan. 3rd, 2005 @ 10:39 pm
I expected the New Year's holiday to be awkward, especially after Relena's unexpected visit last week.

*remembers*Collapse )

Instead, the weekend was a great deal more interesting than expected.

I find myself looking forward to the new year.

Howard... Dec. 29th, 2004 @ 07:23 pm
The man needs to work on his sense of humour.

I have no need for this, as the rat is going back where he came from and...

*starts to unpack gifts and then reconsiders*

I will have to make sure Trowa finds this in his closet after the new Year.

*dials Lu's number*

*mutters* This should be an interesting holiday.

I find myself in need of a small favor...

I hate Christmas shopping.

The only decent part of it is that most of the people on my list are perfectly happy receiving ammunition.

Sans giftwrap.

Which is good of them, as I dislike the wrapping and packaging part of the holiday as well.

*seriously considers sending my birthday gift back to Howard as his Christmas gift*

I have now determined, through painful, embarrassing, first-hand experience, that Schbeiker must die.

(Though actually, come to think of it, he was a rather attractive, and certainly very ...flexible young man.)

Puzzled Nov. 17th, 2004 @ 10:32 am
I just received a call from the front desk of my apartment building. A quote/unquote Large Shipment arrived this morning for me with no return address. Apparently, the only identifying mark on the box is a stenciled palm tree.

They want to know what they should do with it until I return to New York, as it is too large to fit in the service elevator.

[private post] Something's different... Nov. 14th, 2004 @ 10:21 am
There is something seriously wrong with my partner.

I should have suspected something when he pounded on my hotel door at horrendously oh-dark-thirty the other morning, and then proceeded to invite himself in with a casual, "Maxwell is fine. I'll be in the shower. Go back to sleep."

He's partnered me long enough to know that I would find that last option impossible, so I pretended to read over a report while he showered and dressed in borrowed clothes. And we talked for a while after that but before finding sleep. He told me what had happened. I asked him if he was saying his good-byes, and he agreed before adding something that stuck in my memory: "I can't and I won't sacrifice who I am to please someone else."

Food for careful thought, I suppose. I really don't see him changing much from who he is at the present time. But then again, I enjoy the company of the man he is now.

And then there was his mood last night; oddly satisfied and supremely relaxed. Content, even. I called him on this, but he was rather evasive in his answers.

*makes mental note to find out what, exactly, he and Noin were talking about before she left*

I didn't find out about the meal I'd apparently purchased for him until I was leaving for the hospital this morning.

*shakes head*

Chang has a weird sense of humor.

I managed a few days away from the office in order to attend a holiday gathering at the center Trowa's been doing volunteer work for.

It was... interesting. I wasn't aware that a costume was required for the event until Chang kindly informed me of the fact.

He was, however, good enough to assist me in ad hoc creation of a costume from the contents of my closets and storage boxes, though I sincerely doubt that my cobbled-together version of a pirate was even marginally historically accurate.

Chang seemed to enjoy it though; I think it was the boots.

Other than the minor heart failure induced by Noin and Relena's costuming choices, the main part of the night's event went surprisingly well.

There was, however, rather a bit more in the way of excitement after the party. I've already cleared an extended stay on L4 for both Chang and myself. Duo's condition seems to be stable at the moment, but there are many questions left unanswered.

We are taking rotations guarding his hospital room until we know more of the details.

Quiet... mostly Oct. 4th, 2004 @ 09:49 pm
Why is it that things seem so much quieter when Chang is out of town?

I saw Noin off on her return trip to HQ, and had a relaxing rest of weekend. Mostly. Worked on perfecting that chili recipe I borrowed from a squad over on the other side of town, then read through some files and called Howard.

And then called a number of Howard's friends to actually track him down so I could ask him his opinions on a few simple matters and some not so simple ones.

I owe Maxwell a call; Howard insisted upon it as his return favor.

I used my third favorite hobby as an excuse to pick up Chang on his return flight from L2. I called Duo before heading out to the shuttleport, and he gave me a message to relay back to Howard, something about Howard's preferred poison not being fit for anything other than 'the old man's medication.' ...though I may have heard that incorrectly.

Duo also gave me a little advance warning on the outcome of the Yuy-Chang massacre, for which I now owe him a bottle of Howard's best poison the next time I see him.
